In September 1997, Larry Page, search engine inventor and co-founder of Google.com, officially registered the URL of the same name. After more than 25 years of a successful company and world history, Page confessed that he had made a small but crucial spelling mistake during the registration process. Nevertheless, this lapse could not stop the meteoric rise of the world's largest search engine.
Almost exactly 25 years ago, Google.com officially started its operation and from the beginning inspired millions of Internet users all over the world. The term "Internet search" was replaced by the synonym "googling" after only a few. The inventors of the search engine are the former Stanford students Sergey Brin and Larry Page. The two student friends began developing the search engine in 1996 under the name "Backrub" (back massage).
After a few months, the two IT specialists came to the conclusion that a search engine needed a better name. After "The Whatbox," the deliberations were still in full swing until one of Page's roommates brought up the term "Googol" as a suggestion. This mathematical name es is a 1 with 100 zeros. While searching for available domain names on the Internet, Page accidentally wrote "Google" in the search line and consequently reserved Google.com.
From the beginning, the motivation behind the search engine was to organize information of any kind. In addition, all Internet users should have free access. Initially, the servers were operated in student dormitories. A little later, Brin and Page were able to rent a garage in Silicon Valley.
Although Page was the company's first CEO, investors were extremely critical of Google and its business model. The reason for this was sometimes too rapid growth and the fact that the two reasons were not even 30 years old.
The leading minds at Google quickly realized that the search engine was capable of much more. The principle of organizing and publishing information still applied. With the introduction of search engine ranking, other companies were interested in landing as high as possible in the relevant search lists and thus increasing their reach. At the latest in this development phase, the foundation was laid for search engine optimization, which is indispensable today.
